Beaches in Cyprus

With hundreds of kilometres of shoreline lapped by the crystal clear blue waters, Cyprus has a wealth of beaches to choose from. From fine white sandy beaches with shallow turquoise waters to deep water rocky bays perfect for snorkelling. Most of the beaches are excellently organised, clean and provide superb facilities including lifeguards, umbrellas, sun beds, water sports, toilets and changing rooms. The majority are accredited with the blue flag.

Accreditation: Many beaches proudly display the Blue Flag, an annual award to beaches that meet very strict criteria, ranging from water quality to area management and safety. The blue flag is an ecolabel awarded to over 50 beaches in Cyprus, 3200 beaches and marinas in 37 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean. 

With 300 days a year sunshine, easy and fast access, minimum tides and warm waters, Cyprus is also an obvious destination for all forms of water related sports including water ski, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, kite surfing. For divers there is everything one could dream off from swimming through underwater caves to the ultimate diving adventure of a sunken wreck with everything organised by internationally qualified experts.

AT THE BEACH
  • Keep the beach clean. Use the available litter bins. If necessary use your own garbage bag.
  • During hot summer days please remember to stay cool and use common sense. Rest often in shady areas, drink plenty of fluids and never forget your sunscreen.
  • Please pay attention to the warning signs and notices
  • Respect other people. Causing annoyance to others and obnoxious behavior on the beach is strictly prohibited.
  • Avoid bathing in secluded remote caves, near rocks and generally in areas without lifeguards or without local knowledge.
  • Dogs and other animals are strictly prohibited on the beach except in specially designated well sign-posted ‘Dog-beaches’

 

IN THE SEA
  • Always try to swim with able company
  • Do not eat heavily before swimming and do not swim immediately after a meal. NEVER drink alcoholic drinks before swimming
  • Swim parallel and near to the beach shoreline
  • Avoid swimming at the entrance and inside boat corridors marked with smaller red-orange colour buoys vertically to the coastline
  • Keep well clear of powered or any other boats when swimming
  • Always use proper and well maintained diving and snorkeling gear
  • Swimmers, snorkelers or scuba divers must NEVER pick up anything from the sea except plastic bags and other similar human litter. Removing any antiquities is strictly prohibited

 

Beaches in Larnaka

Larnaka beaches are long with grey sand. The water is shallow and clear and the sea is usually calm and ideal for swimming, beach games and walking. Also, Larnaka has the most ideal wind speed conditions throughout Cyprus for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing especially during the period May - September.  Almost all the beaches are excellently organised and accredited with the blue flag.

Beaches in Lemesos

The beaches in Limassol are long with grey sand or small pepples. The water is calm and peaceful.  Most of the beaches are excellently organised. Water sports like sailing and windsurfing are very popular. In Limassol, a lot of stylish beach cafes and bar-clubs are just by the beach and are perfect for relaxing and ‘fun full’ summer days.

Beaches in Ayia Napa and Protaras

Here you will find many of the island’s most beautiful beaches and some of its most stunning coastline. Calm and crystal clear turquoise waters with powder-soft white sand beaches. It is by no surprise that the beaches can get very crowded during the summer period. A lot of the beaches are easily accessed on foot or bicycle but the best way is to hire a motor bike (do not forget your helmet) or a car and drive to explore the numerous small, gorgeous and secluded beaches along the coastline.  Ayia Napa and Protaras area has the most beautiful and cleanest beaches in Europe!

Beaches in Pafos

The Pafos coastline is noted for its diversity ranging from rugged cliffs to pebble coves and sandy beaches. Some beaches in the Pafos area have deep sea and violent waves and as a result bathing is only recommended in the locations listed below.

Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment, sun beds and umbrellas are only available during the bathing season, that is, between 15 April to 31 October. Lifeguard service is available between 11:00-17:30.
