Pafos Beaches

The Pafos coastline is noted for its diversity ranging from rugged cliffs to pebble coves and sandy beaches.  Some beaches in the Pafos area have deep sea and violent waves and as a result bathing is only recommended in the locations listed below.

Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment, sun beds and umbrellas are only available during the bathing season, that is, between 15 April to 31 October.  Lifeguard service is available between 11:00-17:30.
 

Accreditation
Many beaches proudly display the Blue Flag, an annual award to beaches that meet very strict criteria, ranging from water quality to area management and safety.
 

Facilities Legend

Petra tou Romiou
Petra tou Romiou is located 25km east of Pafos, 9km of the village Kouklia, off the coast along the main road from Lemessos to Pafos.  The rock is also known as Venus Rock, Aphrodite’s Rock, Rock of the Greek and Rock of Romios.   The place is surrounded with legend and has been regarded since ancient times as the birthplace of Aphrodite the Greek goddess of love and fertility.  The rock indicates the place where the Greek Goddess Aphrodite rose from the foam on the waves.  The myth is remarkably portrayed in Botticelli’s Birth of Venus which is on display in the famous Uffizi Gallery in Florence.    A second myth translates ‘Petra tou Romiou’ as the ‘Rock of the Greek’ referring to the Byzantine giant hero Digenis Akritas who through the rocks at pirates to protect his loved one.

Coral Bay
Coral bay is located in the village of Pegia about 10km outside Pafos  and is the most popular beach in the Pafos region.  It is one of the best sandy beaches with shallow waters, attractive for families and is easily accessed by car, motorbike, bicycle and bus.

Pafos Municipal Baths
Pafos municipal baths is a favourite sandy beach located in the heart of the tourist area of Kato Pafos, just 300m from the Pafos Castle.

Alykes Beach
Alykes beach is a sandy beach set near the hotels in the tourist area of Kato Pafos, off Poseidonos avenue.

Faros ‘Lighthouse’ Beach
Faros ‘lighthouse’ beach is a sandy beach located at the west end of Pafos.  The beach is well sign posted and is easily accessed by bus, car, motorbike and bicycle.  Volley court available on the beach.

Pachyammos
Pachyammos is a sandy beach with few rocks located in the heart of Pafos tourist area.
